Making a Premiership Stand With Help From Tecroc

CONTRACTORS seeking colour-matched high strength grouts and specialist adhesive during the construction of Ipswich Town's new North Stand have turned to TECROC Products.

The new stand have a crowd capacity of more than 7,000, features some 823 architectural quality precast units of many different types manufactured by Trent Concrete Ltd.

These include a number of units in distinctive white concrete, some incorporating Spanish Dolomite for a sparkled finish, with others using Derbyshire limestone aggregates. Other types of concrete mixes used include grey concrete, both dense and lightweight, and concrete incorporating Cree Town granite aggregates.

To ensure that all joints, dowel holes and connections receive a suitable colour match and finish in keeping with the overall quality of the scheme, the sub-contractors for the precast concrete and steelwork structure, ABC Structures of High Wycombe, have used a combination of specialist materials from TECROC Products.

Non-shrink TECROC CS Grout White has been selected for jointing and finishing the white precast units, while standard CS Grout is being used for base plate grouting and filling dowel holes on the grey coloured sections.

Both products are free-flowing cementitious grouts providing high strength properties and are chloride-free, allowing safe use in direct contact with steel.

The need for a high strength construction adhesive for the permanent bonding of step units to the precast seating terraces has been met by using TECROC Epoxy Adhesive 305, a three-part epoxy-resin based compound which achieves very high compressive and slant shear strengths.

TECROC Tilebond, a structural cementitious adhesive, has also been used during construction to provide an effective bond for precast colour-matched lifter hole blanking plates inserted into the units following placement.

The second phase of construction, involving the erection of steelwork for the roof structure is now underway. The stand is due to be fully completed in the 2002/3 season.

Main contractor for the new stand is Jackson Building Ltd, with the design by architects H.O.K. Sport, and Jan Brobowski & Partners as consulting engineers.
